Back again... not really
Well it has been almost a year since I last updated my web page and the only reason I'm updating now is because some of you who actually visit this site started bitching about how I never update it.  WELL ARE YOU HAPPY NOW!  You've made me get off my lazy ass to make an update.

Well you're probably thinking to yourself: Why do you even bother to have a web page if you're not going to update it?  My original intent WAS to publish random brain farts here in an attempt to improve my written/communication skillz (I'm 3l337 yo!)  Most of you who know me personally are probably aware that I'm not the most articulate person in the world and that I couldn't write an essay to save my life (Why do you think I went into CS).  This inability of mine to articulate my thoughts nearly relegated me to a life where I would be nothing more than a box-pusher.  Back in the day, to get our high school diploma, we needed to take 5 English courses.  Ofcourse it took me 9 attempts to complete all 5 courses.  Yes, you read that right...  I failed English FOUR TIMES! Four fucking times!  I bet there are a few of you who are feeling pretty jaded right now.  You're thinking: "How the hell does a douche bag like this fail high school English 4 times and not end up as a fucking janitor!"  All I have to say is thank god for night/summer school.

Sporting Life 10k

Last year I decided to take up running to supplement my regular work-out routine.  Even though I had been keeping up with cardio in my routine, I wanted to see how that translated into real-world performance.  The Sporting Life 10k was the first long distance run I had done since highschool!  I didn't do too bad that first year, I finished with a time of 50:23.  After that I figured a 45 minute 10k would be no problem... well... I just ran the 2006 Sporting Life 10k this past weekend and I came up with a time of 45:33.7.  A definite improvement but disappointing that I just missed the 45 minute mark.

Here's the only pic of me running, courtesy of the Canada Running Series staff photographers.( I'm the runner wearing all dark clothes, sceond runner to the left of the dude in the white and red Rogers shirt. )

I think at this point I'm definitely hitting a wall, I'm not sure how much under 45 minutes I can bring my 10k time down to.  I'm sure I can keep improving... but I might end up looking like these guys:

I've already got my parents on my case about me looking anorexic, so I think I'll stay away from the "Starvin' Marvin" look.

HAHAHA
I nearly snorted my drink through my nose when my coworker sent me the pic below.  They know exactly how I feel.  The smiley face was a nice touch.

Son of a...

I've been wanting to vent this for a while, but I've been pre-occupied with things like getting my taxes done so the CRA doesn't shit on me and slap me with a late filing fee!

Anyways, back to my rant.  So I was out a couple weekends ago to celebrate another friend's b-day.  Since I was chauffering the birthday girl and we were late, I decided to drop her off and go find parking myself.  Now, being the cheap bastard that I am, I opted not to go for the pay lots, and instead decided to find street parking.  Had I not been so cheap, I could have completely avoided this ordeal.

I find a spot on Queen St. just west of John St. on the eastbound side.  I do everything by the book... signal, pull over and begin parallel parking.  As I was angling in the next thing I hear is someone blaring their horn followed a split second later by the sickening crunch of plastic.  My heart just dropped that instant.  The only thing I was thinking at that point was: MY CAR! MY FUCKING CAR! WHO JUST FUCKED WITH MY CAR!  (A little background for those of you who don't know me.  I was driving my RX-8 and at this point I had it for less then six months.  So this was my brand new car as far as I was concerned)

I look over my other shoulder and I see a black Audi with his nose angled into the spot I was parking in!  Now I'm not saying I wasn't completely at fault, I guess I could have looked over my other shoulder on the off chance that some fuckwad would try to pull into the same spot I was parking in.  I was completely livid at this point, when I confronted about what he was doing, he said he was making room for the fire trucks which were coming through.

WHAT THE FUCK!  If he had given me 3 seconds to finish my parking job, he and the fire trucks could have been on their merry fucking way!  But instead, we have my car which is half-in the parking spot and blocking half a lane, his car which is half in the parking spot and blocking half a lane, and a line-up of cars and fire trucks which can't get through now... GENIUS!

In order to let the fire trucks get through, thte guy gets out of my way so I can finish my parking job and then he drives off... then I realize... I don't have any of his information...  SHIT!  So being the moron that I am, I sit around and wait thinking he's going to drive around the block to discuss how to resolve this...  20 minutes later I'm still here and he's not.  I've wasted enough time already, so I just head back to join the birthday celebrations... needless to say,  I wasn't in the mood to be partying.

How bad was the damage? See for yourself.
It wasn't alot of damage, but it still cost me \$460 to get it fixed.  Had this been my minivan, or if the car was 5 years old... I would have said "fuck it".  But instead, I'm out \$460!

Finally Setteled In
It has been a week since I've returned from my vacation, and I think I've finally settled back into life here.  Started up my old routines, headed back to the gym to work off the extra ponunds I packed on during my vacation.

Speaking of which, a word of advice to anyone who is restarting their gym routine after an extended break...  ease yourself back into it!  Sure it sounds like common sense, but once you realize what a pathetic weakling you have become, you develop this sense of urgency to return your body to peak form, which leads you to push yourself harder than you normally would.  Now at this point it would be nice if your body let you know right away that you have over-exterted yourself, that way you would know to back off in the middle of exercising...  but no... for some reason it takes 2 days for you body to say: "Whoa buddy! Time to back off and give it a rest!"  Well, that's 2 days I'm at the gym plowing away through my routine thinking: "Great! I'll be back in shape in no time!"  Ofcourse, the next morning my muscles seize up in pain.  It's like they sent a collective FUCK YOU! for slave driving them at the gym.  It's pretty pathetic to see a grown man (and I use the term loosely) whimpering like a puppy because he's in too much pain to drag himself out of bed.  Well I eventually manage to haul my ass into work, but all I can do is sit slouched in my chair, paralyzed with pain.  It was a chore just to get up to go take a piss.  Looking back, I should have exercised my option to "work" from home.  That was one very painful lesson I learned, hopefully one I will never repeat.

Asides from that painful experience, things have been pretty eventful here.  The leafs didn't make it into the playoffs for the first time in seven seaons.  Mad cow has broken out in Canada again.  8 bikers are killed because of an internal gang struggle, 2 kids are shot at a house party (Man, this place is going to the dogs... one more reason to get the hell outta here).

It's disappointing to hear that the Leafs aren't going to thet playoffs this season, but at least we can't lose to Ottawa in the playoffs :P  So we can still rub it in their faces that they have yet to defeat us in the playoffs.

I would also like to give a belated bday shout out to Patrick.  That was some party at Budo, but next time stick to water or try not to get kicked out before last call. haha.

I'm back!  After a 2 year hiatus, I've finally re-launched djlee.ca.  There's not much here right now, but check back as I will be adding more content soon.

I've just returned from my 4 week vacation in Asia, and between getting caught up at work, gym and getting my taxes done, it's a wonder I have anytime to get this site back up and running.  If you think this site look like trash, it's because I'm using a template, since I don't have the time to design a web site.  If you're a starving web-designer, I've got ten bucks to spend on re-designing my site.

The past 4 weeks have been a blast.  It has been a real eye-openner to experience the culture and the way of life outside of my little bubble called North America.  Anyways, check out the gallery for pics from my vacation.
